Kolkata to Tarakeswar Cab: Fare, Distance and Temple Visit Tips

13 October 2026 2 min read

A Kolkata to Tarakeswar cab covers about 60 km and takes 1.5 to 2 hours, so a temple visit and return fits easily in half a day. The Taraknath Temple, dedicated to Shiva, is one of the most visited shrines in Hooghly district, with the heaviest crowds on Mondays and during the Shravani Mela.

Quick facts

Distance About 60 km
Drive time 1.5 to 2 hours
Trip length Half day
Busiest Mondays, Shravan, Shivaratri

Route and timing

The usual route runs through Howrah to the Delhi Road or via Dankuni towards Singur and Tarakeswar. Leave by 7am to finish darshan before the late-morning rush, and be back in Kolkata by early afternoon.

At the Taraknath Temple

Devotees bathe in Dudhpukur, the tank beside the temple, before offering prayers. Footwear and bags are left at stalls outside. Keep cash for offerings and footwear deposit.

During the Shravani Mela, pilgrims walk from the Hooghly at Baidyabati carrying Ganga water, and roads around the town are restricted. Expect the cab to stop further from the temple and plan more walking.
